Pardon my bad headline grammar (isn’t that redundant?). Motivated by producing a TV spot for KRCL radio in HD, I decided to go into Blu-Ray. I bought an LG Blu-Ray burner from Best Buy (only one model available but fortunately it’s a good one) that I installed internally in my computer. I also bought the Samsung BDP-1600 (pic left) which was also highly rated. I know- it looks like any other box. The total investment was about $500.00 which I can write off because of my business. I’ll be frank: it’s eye-popping.
We’ve rented ”Coraline” in 3D, and animated features like “Ice Age 3″ and “Kung Fu Panda” because animation really benefits from Blu-Ray and high definition’s quality. When we got it a few weeks ago, there wasn’t much Blu-Ray at the Blockbuster we go to. Since we got back from our recent travels, the collection has just about doubled and includes some older titles like “Casablanca.” “Good Night and Good Luck” looked particularly good in its old-school black and white, the contrasts and definition being particularly eye-catching.
My next goal is to burn my Utah/National Parks project, shot on 1080i HD, to Blu-Ray. I hope to play it on some big screens like in concert halls or video exhibits or even on cable or the local PBS. I’d rather watch a half-hour of pretty pictures in striking HD than 90 minutes of Seth Rogen cavorting through another men-behaving-badly joint.
