We often pass by stories like this because they don’t have pictures or screaming headlines. But the amount of gasoline Americans use is declining- not just temporarily- but permanently. There was a time not long ago this was looked at as a bad thing. But now, it’s generally considered to be an indication of greater environmental consciousness, technological progress, more efficient work and life patterns, and lots of other good things. Funny how things change.
For people like me who work at home, drive little, and have implemented solar energy and other sustainable technologies and conservation measures in our homes and lives, this news could not be better. After all, we’re the ones who’ve been fighting for this. Despite the claims of some folks, environmentalists don’t want the U.S. economy to collapse, the world to go back to living in caves, and big government to force everyone to become vegetarians. We just want the planet to be in good enough shape for future generations to enjoy it as much as we have.
I’d love to hear from anyone who disagrees with that.
