China Softens Vengeful, Bitter, Defensive Tibet Rhetoric: Like Olympics, It’s Just a Show
Stopping demands for a boycott of a French supermarket. Cautioning Chinese citizens to “expect criticism.” These are two of the new tactics indicating a change in the Chinese government’s unfortunate and backfiring public relations campaign against Tibet and Olympics protestors. But that’s what they are : tactics. The goal is to make China look less belligerent and more friendly than they have been and really are. But as the continuing crackdown on pro-Tibet protestors continues with Nepalese authorities’ detention of a Mount Everest climber carrying a pro-Tibet sign, we can rest assured the Chinese’ attempts to soften their image will increase as their campaign to strangle Tibet and its supports ratchets up.
