China to Meet with Tibet Leaders: Actual Progress?
There have been meetings between Chinese and Tibetan government-in-exile leaders before, but the Dalai Lama, was not involved. The new meeting that appears to be agreed upon is a big step toward legitimizing Tibet’s legitimate government and the Chinese government’s new willingness to discuss their occupation and brutal oppression with their victims. The meeting itself is a start but a long way from freedom and justice. Don’t expect that from the Chinese ever unless they are overthrown violently or the pressure of global outrage forces them to relent. Option 2 seems the most likely because that’s what produced this meeting in the first place.
