China’s Karma: Earthquake Could Improve Their Attitude; But Remember 9/11?

There’s nothing that will knock a bully off his self-constructed pedestal than a shot to the gut from something they did not see coming. Such was 9/11 for Bush and America. Such is China’s earthquake. As troubles mount in China, the comparisons to 9/11 and how the Bush Regime blew the greatest PR opportunity in American history since Pearl Harbor are mounting like the body count in Iraq.

Unlike the Olympics, this is China’s real chance to show the world that they are just and compassionate as well as rich and powerful. Can they accept assistance from the outside world? Can they understand what misery is like for Tibetans as it is for the victims of the earthquake now? Can they reach out beyond their paranoid obstructions to accept their imperfection and vulnerability and see themselves as part of a planetary community instead of a monolithic, isolated entity living off the exploitation of Earth and all its life to merely increase the power and wealth of its powerful and wealthy? This is China’s moment of truth. Bush had his. And we know what happened there.
